In a series of visits across the western states, Trump visited California of all places! Considering tensions of California politicians with the Trump administration, visting California for him is like the equivalent of visiting Afghanistan (which he did visit too in the past year). But surprisingly, the visit went really well. The meeting with Governor Newsom was conducted in a rather civil manner actually.

The day before the visit, media was filled with scoffing stories of how ironic it was that Trump would descend into California at the very time it was filled with ash, caused by global warming to which his policies contributed. But what did Trump say, "It's going to get cooler, you just wait".

They were able to come to a consensus though, because Trump came to help. The consensus was that both Trump and Newsom agree that taking California forest management much more seriously is important. Trump pledged to take 75% of California forest management costs upon federal government. And as much as California politicians hate Trump, they couldn't not be thankful for that. But to make sure he doesn't change his mind, they reminded him that most forest acreage in California belongs to the federal government.

The visit highlights a trait of Trump that help him be a successful businessman and president. And that trait is, he is a man of action. When most people look at the unprecedented fire season across the western states this year and want to just whine about global warming, Trump asks how can we fix this fire problem? Especially considering the attitude of western states towards him, most people would not really want to help. But to Trump, when a job needs to be done, a job needs to be done. And here are a few measures he recommends.

  • Remove the debree laying on the floor of California forests that creates a fuel supply for fires. Actually, prior to professional fire fighting, fires were just allowed to burn in North American forests. Fire was considered as just one of the important forces of nature. Because fires were allowed to burn, they would consistently remove that debree on the floor. So over time, fires were not as violent. Because forest floors were much clearer, fires would die much quicker, lacking the fuel supply.
  • Thin the forests by removing rotten and dry trees. Fires in Southern California are much more dangerous than in the north because in the south there are a lot of trees that are already dead. When fire comes, these dead trees explode and spread sparks all around, accelerating the spread of fire.
  • Create periodic fire barriers. Ever see those bare strips of nothing in forests, as if somebody cut down all the trees in a straight line? Well, those are the barriers we're talking about. Fire needs consistent fuel to burn. When it runs into a patch without trees, it dies. These patches stop fires from ravaging mile after mile.
